Lets Make a Mess

Hi all!

Lets paint! Did you squirt your paints a while ago? Fill lots of pots with water. ( I think I became a painter so I would have a use for all the plastic containers mushrooms come in. Its so hard to buy bulk mushrooms). Draw some rocks or something in the foreground. If you are interested look at the arrows I have used to show directions of lines. One is not right in the right hand corner. 2 of the rock lines are parallel = boring! Try to keep the direction of the objects different!

Now block off some areas with paper or scrap plastic — think of this area as sky or ocean. Then spread a thin amount of water on the exposed area. Take a screen goop up with paint. Then hold it over the wet area and flick the screen.

Dab some, watch the variance of color drip some more color to darken areas. Try different towels for they have different weaves leaving different textures.

See some areas that are darker and some that have more saturated hue? Now remove the paper and plastic and fill in  sea and rocks. Use one stroke of the brush for each plane of the rock Use a towel or your brush to soften edges especially in the sky as there are few hard edges in the sky.

Watch for brush use. Make as few brush strokes as you can. Remember a good watercolor brush not only puts water and pigment on the paper but also sucks it up. This movement can cause colors to go dead.Learn how your brush works!
