This is how I set up my palette. However, when it comes time for you to set up yours its important you decide based on what you want to do. Some of the questions I asked myself before squirting out paint were
- How do I want the colors organized? But value? By hue? By temperature?
- How important is ‘clean’ color- color uncontaminated by other colors?
- How many colors do I want on my palette? I started with very few and only added another pigment when I could not achieve something I wanted to be able to do with what I had.
One point became very clear to me as I ‘played’ learning about watercolor. I needed pure pigment – pigment uncontaminated by another color especially yellows. So I made sure I had two if not three wells of the same pigment. One to keep pure another to make greens and another to make oranges.
